February Socks

I finally finished my February Socks! I had started them using Silver's Sock Class and doing toe at a time, toe up, on two circular needles, phew, that's a mouthful. So they were going well, but I really dislike toe up socks. The toe looks great, the heels not so bad, but I have to say that I really like my heel flap. By the way I don't like change and I always do top down. So I tried it and I did like the idea of doing them two at a time so I could use up all of my yarn and just stop when the yarn ran out, but it just went so slow. So about an inch into the leg I seperated them and really got to work. I had started them in February along with the Knitty Couture Sock Knit Along, but because they were so frustrating I put them down and didn't pick them up until last Thursday, and had them finished on Saturday.

The yarn is Frija by Spirit Trail Fiberworks, it's a cashmere merino blend with a little bit of nylon for strength. It is deliciously soft and comfy, and I have worn the sock everyday since Saturday. I am sure you think that's gross, but I really don't want to take them off. I used #2 needles, and for the two at a time I used two 24" needles. Like I said I used Silver's Sock class for the instructions on how to get them going, turn the heel, etc. but the idea for the cables came from the Stephen Colbert Sock pattern from the second Mason Dixon Knitting book. You just kind of put a cable in wherever you want. That was another reason why I was so frusttrated with them. It is hard trying to not follow a pattern. The idea of cables werever you want was supposed to be freeing, but instead it became daunting thinking of where I should be putting a cable and will this sock look as good as the other one even if there arent's so many cables. It was enough to make me want to scream. And I did, and I put the socks down for a month, and like you see have just now finished them.

So here they are. Arent' they lovely?

I love these socks but even when you were telling me about the cabels I saw a challenge that I didn't know if it was for me. The outcome is really awesome. I love 'em. I am inspired to do my own spring socks but probably something a little less daunting.
